Flagship

WEN started a flagship program with Hellgate High School in the spring of 2004 and since then have expanded to other schools. This program offers a range of after-school activities as a way of involving youth of varying ages in the greater Missoula community. In 2011, WEN served 17 Flagship after-school programs, covering 219 student days with students from Hellgate High School, Sentinel High School, Lowell Elementary School, C.S. Porter Middle School, Washington Middle School and Meadow Hill Middle School. 

Programs included an extended Water Explorations Program with Sentinel, summer Flagship programs, a six-week Bug Club with Lowell. Activities are not limited to but may include:

  • A Geology and Glacial Lake Missoula hike 

  • Orientation and watershed mapping 

  • Fly fishing with the UM Outdoor Recreation Program 

  • Water Monitor Training 

  • A visit to the National Weather Station 

  • Fish Population counts and electro-shocking 

  • Chemical sampling on O’Brien Creek 

  • Milltown Dam and Reservoir Tour

  • Jocko Fish Hatchery Tour 

  • Osprey walk and observation 

  • Bug Arts and Crafts 

  • Osprey Observation Walk 

  • Search for tailed frogs in the Rattlesnake
